Jordan Hyland

Built for students who didn't click with school

My name is Jordan Hyland. I’m a Scioto County native and a graduate of both Portsmouth West and Shawnee State.

For 5 years, I coached high school soccer. Then I spent another 5 years hosting video game tournaments. In both settings, I noticed something about the kids I interacted with: many of them didn’t “click” with school. It was boring. It was too formal. They were learning content they didn’t care about. They just wanted to graduate and be done with school forever.

So I reinvested my time and energy into learning how to work with this population of students by returning to school. Why did I care? Because that was once me. I was successful in elementary school, but never lived up to my full potential in middle and high school because the formality and early hours of school didn’t fit me as a learner.

Students with learning differences or who have otherwise fallen behind in school are going to have a rough time catching up in an environment that isn’t suited for them. That’s why I’m here. I will take the time to learn who they are, what they like, how they learn best, and I will help them build the skills they need to be successful in the modern era.
